Remembering Our July, 2013 Event
A TONE Rendezvous wouldn't be complete without some time set aside for special presenters and speakers. To get us into the sailing mood (as if we needed help?) the Friday night topic was the 2013 America's Cup Race. Our speaker was Todd Berman, an experienced and very successful world class racer.
Todd's experiences in the rarified top tiers of sailboat racing have allowed him to make some especially informed connections among the world's racers, and included some from the America's Cup teams. With insider information gleaned from his special contacts, and using an exciting multi-media presentation, Todd provided some basic Cup history and then took the mesmerized group into the high-tech world of America's Cup catamaran racing.
Todd Berman describing AC racing. America's Cup catamaran "foiling". Catastrophic failure, and a fatality.
Todd used exciting videos to show TONE members how the AC 72 catamarans use the remarkable engineering of "foils" to raise their already fast pontoons completely out of the water to ride on slender carbon fiber curved blades. It was the successful engineering of these foils, and the amazing skill of the boat crews in using them, that gave the Oracle team its win over Team New Zealand.
Everyone in the audience felt more excited about the America's Cup races and much more informed about how the boats themselves operate after the presentation. It was a great sailing oriented session and whetted the members' appetites for more to come.
The Saturday theme would be Safety at Sea . . .

It's Not Too Early to Dream!
Even though most of us have barely taken down the sails for this season, the TONE New England Cruise experts are already hard at work planning for the 2014 cruise.
The New England Cruise will originate in Southern New England and end at Mt. Desert Island in Maine. The cruise will begin at the very end of July and take place over the first two weeks of August, 2014. We'll put more information here on the site as the plans are finalized.
This site is the venue for all Tartan owners to exchange information, enjoy boating and social events together, and create a sense of fellowship in order to enhance our ownership experiences.
TONE is thankful to our “Friends of TONE” for their kind and generous support of our Winter Gathering 2013. When considering a marine purchase we urge TONE members to consider our friends first. “Friends of TONE” include the following companies:
