Newport RI on Narragansett Bay
Author Last Post
As noted by T-30 Pound Foolish skipper John Zajac, there are some excellent watering holes for sailers in Newport RI.

One of our fav spots is at Benjamin's, casual with great food and they serve till 12p.m.  They have the crow's nest which is up top on the 3rd level rooftop and is decked out like a boat.

The Dockside is good.

The Cook House is very nice and where a lot of the racers and blue blazer types will hang. A little pricey. but cool, and they usually
have cool acoustic music on the main level.

The Landing (30 Bowen's Wharf) has a dinghy dock and lots of outside seating. The Aquidneck Lobster Co. and its Lobster Bar is right next door on the same wharf. (One of the last vestiges of old Newport, not many tourists, go for a beer and raw bar outside of normal dining hours - Ed) You will see the green underwater lights from the harbor.

At the Ann St. dock is the new Portside bar, it has been very busy. (This is also the location of the new Newport Maritime Center with dinghy dock, laundry, showers, tables and chairs for eating and the only beach in town - Ed). Next door is 41 North which is where all the beautiful people go for $10 beers..... It is easily the coolest on the water bar, and way too pricey, but worth a walk thru before 10 p.m. at which time they charge $20 to enter.

Here are a few more of my personal Newpy fav's:

Buskers for the BEST Rueben and a great Guinness

Scales and Shells for any Seafood and only seafood.....  really really
good

Perro Sellada for awesome mexican and rita's in an old house with many rooms.

LTK, Lower Thames Kitchen for a new menu every night, limited choices, all superb and BYOB with a liquor store next door.
Reservations recommended.

Brick Alley Pub, when you don't know what you want to eat.  They do food very well here and it can get busy, but I always walk to the bar and look for a lucky spot.  BIG menu.

Diego's on Bowen's Wharf, the best breakfast before you leave port. Habenero Bloody Mary to get you going too.

We tend to park the dinghy at the Landing and graze our way thru the night, hitting a few (bunch) bars for a drink and an appetizer at
each.
