Tartan 40 / 412 holding tank
Author Last Post

Thanks so much - extremely helpful info.  I will research for my own application.
I spent several months doing research and finally chose the C-Head for several reasons.

The C Head was invented by a sailor, his intention was to make the entire system out of parts that could be found in any hardware store. Also, it is the only system that comes in different configurations to fit into your boat. On my Tartan 3500 I had to use the model with a cut out in the base because of the curvature of the hull.

And most importantly, the C-Head does not require a vent, so there was not need to cut a hole in my boat.

The installation was easy, but the removal of the old system was awful.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Which composting head did you select?  What model boat did you fit it into?  Can you share a photo of the install?  I am muddling through the same question for a Tartan 40.  Thank you.
I just switched to a composting toilet.

I will never have another holding tank on my boat.

They are inconvenient to empty,  get clogged up, take up too much space and no matter what you do they stink.
Same answers as Jim and Danny.  I have a 1986 Tartan 40, I replaced my Holding Tank several years ago, same location as theirs.  I made a template from Cardboard, that fit exactly into the location.  Then brought that to a plastic / poly welder, and marked locations for Vents, Fills, and pump-outs ... all on top of the Tank ... and they spun in fittings, that I connected hose to after the install.  Suggest you have TWO 3/4" min vent locations.  Cheers, John
When I replaced the holding tank on my T-40, the yard made measurements and had the tank built to fit. It was located under the v-berth, just aft of the anchor locker.

Jim
On my T40 the black water holding tank is under the v-berth, just aft of the bow locker.

Join the tartan Yahoo group and ask there as well.

Danny
I just purchase a Tartan 412, the former owner removed the holding tank to install a water maker, I need to reinstall a tank but would like to find the original location and tank size. By the location of the pump out fitting it was located in the port locker. Would appreciate help from Tartan 40/412 owners on exact location, size and manufacture.

Thanks In Advance
