About TONE
TONE was started in 1996 by a group of New England based Tartan sailors to provide a means of communication, sailing participation and a sense of community among owners of Tartan yachts. TONE is also host to the Tartan Owners Web Site. Since our inception, we have grown rapidly, today with 100 active members and over 600 Tartan owners and fans contributing to the TONE Yahoo Group web site.
The first gathering of TONE members took place in March 1996 at a Tartan Open House sponsored by Hellier Yacht Sales in New London, CT. This was followed in June of 1996 by a very successful Tartan Owners Rendezvous held in New London at which twenty-six Tartan captains and crews enjoyed meeting and making new friends, a great cocktail party and dinner, followed by dancing, and raffle prizes.
In addition to scheduling and coordinating sailing events and activities, TONE also publishes four newsletters ("TONE NEWS") each year. The current and all subsequent TONE NEWS releases will be available for download on this web site.
Where we Sail
Our membership has grown to over 100 active members. There are many others who have registered on the TONE website, but have not as yet paid the dues fee. We are happy to have both types of interest. Owners of all sizes of Tartans have joined, from the Tartan 27' to the Tartan 53'.
Members are located in each of the New England states, as well as VA, MD, CA, FL, TX, NC, OH, MN, TN and KS. With the introduction of the website, communication expanded to many other Tartan owners, helping to meet one of the principal purposes of the association.
In addition to the first Rendezvous in 1996, TONE hosted a Rendezvous in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007 and plans to do so every other year. Tartan Yachts does not run Rendezvous events, but provides substantial support to the TONE events, which we greatly appreciate. On the off years we sponsor a cruise to Maine.
